Fixing the Sticky Control Key

The XO laptop before starting the procedure.

1

First, the cover on the hinge is removed.

2

Then, the top cover around the hinge and the handle is removed.

3

Now, the laptop is flipped over and the bottom panel is removed.

4

The cable connecting the top and bottom parts of the laptop is disconnected, and the screen is now removed.

5

The last parts of the green frame are removed. We're almost to the keyboard now.

6

And here's the keyboard, stuck to the metal plate at the bottom of the laptop.

7

Here's the keyboard with the top green membrane (the keys) peeled back to reveal the sensors underneath. The glue that's used to hold the keys to the sensors while the laptop is being made can cause the sensors to think they are still pressed even when they are not.

8

And here's the laptop all put back together and working again, with no sticky keys anymore! Now the keyboard works again, because the control key isn't stuck down.
